Lauren Bennett, known for her performance on the 2011 hit song “Party Rock Anthem” with LMFAO, has passed away at the age of 37. The news was announced by her former music group G.R.L. on Monday.
“It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Lauren,” read a statement posted on Instagram by G.R.L. members Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton, and Paula van Oppen. The cause of Bennett’s death has not been disclosed. A representative for Bennett did not respond to NBC News’s request for comment.
Lauren Bennett gained prominence through her performance in “Party Rock Anthem,” a song that peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s charts for six weeks in 2011. LMFAO saw another chart-topping success with “Sexy and I Know It.”
“Our hearts are broken, and we cannot begin to express how much she meant to us,” stated the members of G.R.L. They added, “We will forever cherish the love, laughter, and countless memories she gave us. Her beautiful spirit touched so many lives, and she will be deeply missed and forever loved.”
Earlier, in 2014, the group mourned the loss of another member, Simone Battle. G.R.L. was initially formed in 2011 as a revival of the Pussycat Dolls but later established their own identity. They achieved fame with tracks like “Ugly Heart” and collaborated with Pitbull on “Wild Wild Love.”
“Party Rock Anthem” was one of LMFAO’s two No. 1 hits, sharing the spotlight with “Sexy and I Know It.”
