Legal Immigrant’s Perspective on U.S. Immigration
Immigration Challenges and Legal Requirements
Kris Ramsingh, a legal immigrant from Trinidad, shared his viewpoint on the immigration process with Fox News Digital. Ramsingh emphasized that birth tourism and illegal immigration undermine the efforts of those who follow the legal path to citizenship.
After immigrating to the U.S. in 2006, Ramsingh went through a decade-long process to become a U.S. citizen in 2015. He expressed appreciation for the immigration policies under President Donald Trump. Ramsingh contrasted the experiences of illegal immigrants with his own, highlighting the rigorous requirements he met, including vaccinations, personal documentation, a criminal background check, and financial stability.
“America doesn’t owe us anything,” he stated, referring to immigrants who abide by legal processes. He stressed the privilege of entering the country legally, either for educational purposes or tourism.
Personal Journey and Business Ventures
Ramsingh’s journey in the U.S. began with only $300 and a few suitcases in 2006. He has lived in Roanoke, Virginia, since then, operating the Dominion Custom Upholstery business. His business ventures expanded into boatworks and interior repairs, showcasing the potential of the American dream.
He founded Dominion Project International, a missionary organization that delivers potable water and medical supplies to regions in need, including India, Africa, and the Caribbean. Ramsingh also uses these missions to spread the Gospel, underscoring his belief in meaningful contributions.
Patriotism and U.S. Assistance
As Americans prepare for Independence Day, Ramsingh expressed pride in the American flag, recalling the safety it represented during political turmoil in Trinidad in 1990. The intervention of American soldiers left a lasting impact, shaping Ramsingh’s appreciation for the U.S. and its global role.
Feeling a sense of security upon returning from overseas missions, Ramsingh expressed frustration at criticisms against America from both citizens and newcomers. He proposed that those unhappy with the country should consider leaving.
Political Views on Immigration
Addressing critics of Trump’s immigration policies, Ramsingh defended the former President, rejecting claims of anti-immigrant sentiment. He asserted that the focus was on maintaining legal immigration processes and preventing illegal entries.
Ramsingh acknowledged the complexities involved in deportations, attributing them to previous lax enforcement of immigration laws. He conveyed understanding for those seeking a better life in America, but emphasized the importance of pursuing legal avenues.
Ramsingh concluded with gratitude for the privilege of being in the U.S., seeing it as an earned opportunity rather than an entitlement.
