Lieutenant’s Tragic End: A Case of Murder-Suicide

Lt. Ricardo Santos served in the New Jersey State Police’s elite unit focused on protecting dignitaries. However, his career took a troubling turn due to questions about his conduct.

In a police report, Dr. Lauren Semanchik, a veterinarian, suspected Lt. Santos, her ex-boyfriend, of vandalizing her car. She told the police that Santos hadn’t coped well with their breakup. Law enforcement contacted Santos, advising him to avoid any contact with Dr. Semanchik to prevent further incidents. Santos acknowledged the warning.

On August 1, 2025, Dr. Semanchik and her new boyfriend, Tyler Webb, were tragically found shot to death outside her home in Pittstown, New Jersey. Investigators quickly identified Lt. Santos as the primary suspect after he was discovered dead nearby in a suspected suicide.
