His response prompted Sky players and security to intervene, resulting in Freedom’s removal from the venue.
Freedom later explained in an interview that Cloud had made an inflammatory remark regarding Fever star Sophie Cunningham. He claimed he was merely supporting women and not trying to provoke any hostility. Rapinoe commented on Freedom’s actions and statements, offering a sarcastic critique on her podcast. She questioned his intentions, suggesting that his claims of protecting women were insincere. She highlighted the inconsistency of those who previously criticized women’s sports but now seem concerned about them.
Rapinoe pointed out that individuals like Freedom, who oppose biological men in women’s sports, are detrimental to the cause. She emphasized the need for collective action among women athletes to combat discrimination and ensure respect and fair treatment within sports leagues.
