Mike Lindell Receives Trump Endorsement in Minnesota Governor Race
Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow, received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump for the Minnesota governor’s race. Lindell has supported Trump and voiced claims of fraud during the 2020 election. He faces a competitive primary for the Republican nomination, with a likely general election matchup against Senator Amy Klobuchar, the Democratic frontrunner.
Political Shift: Governor Walz Steps Down
The race changed when Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat, opted out of seeking a third term after criticism over fraud scandals and immigration enforcement issues. Two American citizens were shot by immigration officers in Minneapolis, raising immigration as a key election topic.
Trump’s Endorsement and Potential Impact
Trump praised Lindell on Truth Social, calling him a patriot and supportive of election integrity. Larry Jacobs, a political scientist at the University of Minnesota, commented on the possible negative impact of Trump’s endorsement among independent voters.
Republican Primary Competition
Several Republican candidates are participating, including Lisa Demuth and Kendall Qualls. Polls vary, with Demuth, Qualls, and Lindell showing different levels of support, highlighting the competitive nature of the race.
Demuth aims to unite the party, while Qualls emphasized local support over national endorsements. Klobuchar’s comments indicate her readiness for the election against Lindell.
General Election Polling Favoring Klobuchar
Polls show Klobuchar ahead in potential matchups with Lindell, Demuth, and Qualls. Analysts expect Klobuchar to maintain a strong position, facing favorable ratings across statewide races.
David Schultz from Hamline University believes Klobuchar is a strong candidate and projects a likely Democratic victory. Prediction markets also favor Democrats holding the seat.
Lindell’s Background and Legal Challenges
Born in Mankato, Lindell founded MyPillow and became a vocal Trump supporter starting in 2016. Following the 2020 election, Lindell promoted claims of a stolen election. Dominion Voting Systems dismissed a defamation lawsuit against him, but he faces ongoing legal issues.
Immigration Controversy Influencing Election
Scandal involving the Feeding Our Future nonprofit affected the race dynamics. Walz’s decision to not seek reelection altered the landscape, with Klobuchar emerging as the Democratic candidate.
Under Trump administration scrutiny, Minnesota underwent increased immigration enforcement, leading to backlash and protests over officer-involved shootings of American citizens.
Republicans Target Minnesota Despite Challenges
Republicans consistently aim to win Minnesota but face challenges due to its light blue status and Democrats securing narrow wins. Former Republican governors and senators provide historical context for the state’s political landscape.
Trump’s Approval in Minnesota
Trump’s approval rating in Minnesota affects Republican strategies in the 2026 midterms. Polling indicates disapproval, playing into Democrats’ hopes for electoral gains.
