Mike Lindell Refuses to Pay for Recount in Minnesota GOP Primary, Files Lawsuit
Mike Lindell, founder of MyPillow and known for his denial of the 2020 election results, filed a lawsuit against Minnesota’s election officials, including the secretary of state. Lindell claimed that the officials altered the scope of a potential recount for the GOP gubernatorial primary.
Having lost on August 11 to state House Speaker Lisa Demuth by approximately 45,000 votes, Lindell was initially prepared to pay $825,000 for a hand recount and audit of the election. Despite receiving endorsement from Trump, Lindell finished second in the race. The payment deadline passed without a contribution from Lindell. He told NBC News that he withdrew his offer upon learning that the recount would concentrate only on ballots cast for him and Demuth, bypassing votes from the entire slate of seven Republican candidates.
