The investigation into the death of an American woman in Ireland has been upgraded to a murder case. Authorities are actively searching for a “significant person of interest” related to the case, according to recent reports.
Jamey Carney, aged 43, was discovered deceased in her residence in Killarney earlier this week. The Irish Times and additional sources revealed that Carney hailed from Westchester County, New York, yet had been residing in Killarney since 2021. She occupied a rented home together with her 13-year-old daughter.
An attack led to Carney’s death, resulting in fatal head injuries either on Monday night or early Tuesday. Following a post-mortem examination, authorities classified her death as a murder inquiry.
The Irish police are on the lookout for a man of particular interest in connection with the murder. Although the authorities refrained from disclosing his age, name, or nationality due to legal restrictions, the search is ongoing.
Law enforcement has notified ports and airports about the person of interest, as he might attempt to flee Ireland and possibly head toward the United Kingdom.
On Wednesday, officials from the U.S. State Department affirmed that an American citizen had passed away the previous day in County Kerry, Ireland. A spokesperson conveyed to Newsweek that “The Trump Administration has no higher priority than the safety and security of Americans.” The State Department is currently offering consular support to Carney’s family. They also extended their deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones for their loss.
This story is developing, and further updates are expected.
