National Dog Day and the Make America Healthy Again Initiative
National Dog Day is spotlighting the initiative to include dogs in the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) push. This campaign emphasizes whole, nutrient-dense foods. Sarah Goldberger, founder and CEO of the organic dog treat company Lord Jameson based in New York, underscores this initiative. We have never used anything artificial,
Goldberger shared with Fox News Digital. She explained that the company’s vibrant colors come from real fruits and vegetables, avoiding fake food coloring and flavoring.
MAHA became an official federal initiative in February 2025. It promotes whole, nutrient-dense foods and calls for reducing refined carbohydrates, added sugars, and artificial additives. Goldberger sees this as potentially influencing pet nutrition. My hope is that as a brand, we can inspire other pet brands to make better choices to really impact the lives and the health and wellness of dogs,
she stated.
Goldberger’s vision for Lord Jameson arose from a personal experience. Her dog, Jameson, faced a medical challenge where medication caused toxicity. This motivated Goldberger to offer treats made with clean ingredients, organic and gluten-free, with no preservatives, toxins, or artificial additives.
Working with a homeopathic vet, Goldberger explored plant-based medicine. Lord Jameson’s wellness products focus on healing through herbs and botanicals. Goldberger conducted surveys with over 1,000 pet parents. Many reported their dogs had sensitivities to animal proteins, preservatives, and colorings.
Despite not using preservatives, Lord Jameson treats have an 18-month shelf life. It’s very difficult to achieve in production and is another key selling point for us,
Goldberger noted. The treats are digestible and positively impact dogs’ digestive systems.
National Dog Day emphasizes the choices owners make for their pets. Lord Jameson products cater to dogs with dietary needs like colitis and diabetes. The company has introduced protein-inspired flavors in the Love Puffs line, made with organic sorghum for added protein and fiber.
Goldberger highlighted that Lord Jameson is completely vertically integrated with operations based in Boulder, Colorado, ensuring steady prices and locally sourced ingredients. Lord Jameson treats are available at 5,500 independent pet retailers in the United States and in grocery stores, extending internationally to four countries.
