Nick Faldo, a renowned six-time major champion, has expressed strong opinions about Bryson DeChambeau’s golfing approach, especially ahead of The Open at Royal Birkdale. The World Golf Hall of Famer, aged 68, openly criticized DeChambeau for his perceived lack of strategy on the course.

Faldo shared his views with Sky Sports stating, “How they’re superstars at LIV then come over and can’t do it, that’s a whole part of the story.” He emphasized that, despite DeChambeau’s star status at LIV Golf, his strategic approach seemed flawed. Faldo noted, “I’d say it to his face — he has zero clue of strategy.”

The critique included references to DeChambeau’s comments from the previous year. Faldo recounted a statement from DeChambeau about his intent to “attack the links.” Faldo challenged this method, suggesting, “You thread it, don’t you? You feed it down the fairway.” He explained that strategically navigating the course involves considering terrain features like “humps and bumps” rather than blindly aiming to cover large distances.

Additionally, Faldo criticized DeChambeau for his stubbornness in maintaining this aggressive approach. “Even if you hit it fantastic, it lands on the corner of a divot, you still miss the fairway,” Faldo stated. He highlighted the importance of considering how to keep the ball on “short grass” and cautioned against relentlessly “bombing away.”

DeChambeau’s current season performance has been far from successful, with missed cuts at The Masters, The U.S. Open, and PGA Championship. Despite these setbacks, he qualified for this year’s Open Championship following a top-10 finish last year.
