North Carolina Woman Missing in Caribbean May Have Drowned, Says Husband

A North Carolina woman, Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell, who vanished during a girls’ trip to the Caribbean, might have drowned, according to her husband. Liz, aged 43, went missing from Grenada on July 22. Her husband, Cailen Waddell, shared that she was last seen in the water by a group of jet skiers.

In an update posted on FindLiz.com, Cailen revealed that the jet skiers attempted for several minutes to persuade Liz to leave the ocean and ride with them on a jet ski. Reportedly, Liz assured them she was a good swimmer and gave a thumbs up. Cailen has been using this website to share information about Liz’s case, which the family created for running search efforts.

The discussion with the jet skiers is said to have occurred around 5:30 p.m. on the day she was reported missing to the Royal Grenada Police Force. Cailen expressed his grief, stating, “I am grieving her absence and the loss of her in my daily life right now, understanding that it is incredibly likely she is gone and hoping that the investigation will offer more clarity as to what happened.”

Cailen traveled to Grenada two days after Liz was reported missing to aid in the search efforts but returned to the U.S. a week later without success. Surveillance footage from a nearby Airbnb shows someone resembling Liz walking near a pool with a towel and later jumping into the water from a dock.

The search efforts, which included drones, dive teams, and dogs, have yet to find any trace of Liz. Despite the ongoing investigation, the police continue to treat her disappearance as a missing persons case, while her husband retains hope.

“If Liz walked out of the jungle tomorrow and said, ‘Hey, where’s my passport?’ I’d not be surprised and obviously would get on a plane and go get her in a heartbeat,” Cailen stated.
