Former President Barack Obama engaged in lighthearted banter while discussing his perceived influence over President Donald Trump during a podcast appearance. Speaking on the ‘All the Smoke’ podcast with former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Obama humorously suggested, “I obviously have a room in his head, a suite in his head.” This comment came in response to questions about the Trump administration’s apparent fascination with him, as well as the negativity and racism he feels directed at him.
Obama elaborated on his approach during his presidency, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the tasks at hand rather than previous administrations. He stated, “If you’re doing the job right, you’ve got five to ten things that are real hard, and you have to be constantly focused.” He mentioned that spending time worrying about predecessors was not productive and indicated a lack of focus on the needs of the American people.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle expressed strong criticism of Obama, labeling him as “one of the most dishonest, divisive, and destructive Presidents in history.” Despite such criticisms, Obama indicated that personal interactions with Trump differ from his public persona, suggesting, “If whoever you were talking about was in front of me, which has happened a couple of times, he don’t talk like that because he knows better.”
Even though Obama has thoughts about opposing Trump, he chooses to refrain from regular public commentary, commenting that he prefers not to function as a ‘commentator.’ This sentiment echoes his interview with the New Yorker, where he noted that, although tempted to push back against Trump daily, he maintains his stance as a political leader rather than a commentator.
Throughout his various appearances and interviews, Obama has continued to provide insights into his perspectives and approaches to leadership, engaging with audiences on different platforms while maintaining his focus on broader political and societal issues.
