Many appreciate stories of obsession. Classics like Wuthering Heights, The Story of Adèle H., and more recent hits like the Gen Z horror film Obsession captivate audiences. Streaming services often suggest tales of compulsion due to their engaging nature.
However, Donald Trump’s recent actions have diminished the dignity associated with obsession to something less appealing. When taking control of prime time television, impactful content is expected. His recent speech failed to deliver, coming across as a mix of grievances centered on the unfounded claim of a stolen election. Although tasked with governance, he hasn’t provided solutions or evidence to support his claims.
Trump’s speech also raised concerns about foreign influence in U.S. elections, particularly from China. Yet, he has not taken action against China’s leadership, whom he has often praised. This inconsistency raises questions about the seriousness of his accusations.
The address notably lacked vigor. Some, like Pete Hegseth, promote high testosterone levels as essential for effective leadership. In comparison, Trump’s presentation appeared weak.
Republican lawmakers largely remained silent, showing little interest in defending or supporting Trump’s statements. Their silence seemed to express a collective desire for Trump to move past his fixation on the election.
The fixation traces back to Trump’s upbringing, where his father taught him to see the world in terms of ‘killers’ and ‘losers’. This philosophy seems to continue affecting his outlook and actions.
