Ohio Representative Max Miller Denies Abuse Allegations Amid Legal Dispute
Ohio Representative Max Miller has denied allegations of abuse made by his ex-wife. He asserts his intention to remain a candidate in the upcoming November elections. Miller addressed these issues during a livestream on X, stating, “I’ve been portrayed as an abusive husband, an abusive father, and a violent man. These allegations have damaged my reputation, caused enormous pain to my family, and most importantly, it’s affected our daughter.”
Later in the livestream, he emphasized that his campaign is not solely about the Republican Party. “It’s about my family and our daughter, maintaining our values and holding the media and others accountable for their reckless behavior,” he added. Miller made it clear that he is committed to staying in the race, stating, “I’m not getting out of this race, and I’m winning in November.” Newsweek has sought further comments from Miller’s office and the legal representative of his ex-wife.
The controversy arises as Miller faces growing scrutiny over allegations made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, in a contentious legal battle. Miller, representing Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, denies any abuse towards Moreno or their young daughter. There are currently no criminal charges against him related to the accusations.
The allegations regained attention when Moreno, daughter of Republican Senator Bernie Moreno of Ohio, requested a restraining order to prevent Miller from contacting her attorneys. According to court documents reported by CBS News, Moreno accused Miller of harassing and physically grabbing her legal team during custody dispute hearings. Miller denies any wrongdoing.
Among the broader claims are allegations—referenced in police reports and court records—that Miller pushed Moreno against a wall, brandished a gun at her, and threw hot water at her. Moreno also claims their daughter was injured in Miller’s care. ABC News reported that child welfare officials found no substantiated evidence of child abuse and Miller was not charged. He denies all allegations of abuse.
In May, Miller filed a defamation lawsuit against Moreno, claiming false accusations damaged his reputation and reelection hopes. He seeks damages and accuses Moreno of trying to depict him as “a violent and abusive husband and father.” Moreno’s team disputes Miller’s portrayal of events.
The situation has political ramifications. The Associated Press reported that Democrats see a potential opportunity in a district Miller secured with slightly over 51 percent of votes two years prior. Some Democratic members have called for his resignation or an ethics probe. Republican leaders largely support Miller, although the AP mentioned that President Donald Trump’s advisers are observing the case.
Miller, previously an aide in Trump’s White House, first entered Congress in 2022. He and Emily Moreno, who married the same year, share a daughter.
