Pentagon Official Suspended After Criticism of Trump’s Policies
A senior Pentagon official has been placed on leave following accusations of secretly filmed remarks criticizing former President Donald Trump’s administration. The video, released by right-wing activist James O’Keefe, purportedly shows Brandon Newsom, a senior official in the Office of the Secretary of the Navy, reacting negatively to changes made during Trump’s tenure.
While Newsweek has not yet confirmed the authenticity of the footage, it depicts Newsom expressing a desire to remain at the Pentagon to potentially ‘reverse’ decisions made by Trump’s administration. He describes the former president as ‘a textbook narcissist’ and calls the military engagement in Iran ‘completely stupid,’ attributing it to Trump’s personal ego.
Following the video’s circulation, Acting Secretary of the Navy, Hung Cao, announced Newsom’s suspension. In a public statement, he emphasized the seriousness of Newsom’s conduct, labeling it as inconsistent with the Department’s standards. Cao mentioned the necessity for accountability and integrity in the Department of Navy’s operations. Newsom has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.
This is a developing story. More details will be provided as they become available.
