Philadelphia Tops New York in Preseason Matchup
The NBA preseason has begun, and the Philadelphia 76ers marked their presence with a commanding victory over the defending champions, the New York Knicks. The final score stood at 120-97, despite the absence of all Philadelphia’s top stars on the court.
Knicks’ Strategy and Performance
Mike Brown, coach of the Knicks, started nearly all his players. The core lineup played more than 13 minutes each, with OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson contributing 12 points in their limited appearances. However, the additional starters, Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges, struggled to make a significant impact, collectively scoring only 10 points.
Jalen Brunson shared insight after the game, remarking, “It’s a good first step. Not a great first step, but as long as we’re making strides in the right direction, it’s something to be happy about. Still, a lot for us to learn and be better at early.”
Though a preseason game doesn’t carry the regular season weight, the Knicks are anticipating changes with additional minutes for their starters once the season officially begins.
Expectations for Regular Season
With the regular season opening, the Knicks will focus on new goals, including challenging players like LeBron James and Jaylen Brown, who are now part of the 76ers. Furthermore, the Knicks will relish the festive atmosphere with the celebration of their 2026 NBA championship at Madison Square Garden.
Philadelphia’s Standout Players
Philadelphia’s Jaylen Brown showed great promise at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Playing 17 minutes, he scored 22 points, connecting on 8 out of 13 shots. VJ Edgecombe also delivered a solid sophomore performance, earning 12 points, distributing seven assists, and grabbing four rebounds in his 20 minutes on the court.
The teams are scheduled for a significant regular season matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 20, in New York, where they will compete for their first regular season win.
