Preseason NFL Betting Insights
The first round of NFL preseason games offered some surprises. My bets yielded one win and two losses. For instance, I misjudged the Packers and Steelers game, where the Packers scored only nine points. In another game, the Cardinals faced the Raiders, and while it was thrilling, I missed the over by only half a point. The total hit 41, which was just under the 41.5 I anticipated. The preseason, it seems, often surprises.
Rams vs. Chiefs
The matchup between the Rams and the Chiefs, if during the regular season, would be eagerly anticipated. However, in the preseason, we must enjoy viewing the players who get the chance to take the field. Matthew Stafford is unlikely to play, with starters usually seeing minimal time in preseason games, possibly until the third or fourth game. Patrick Mahomes will also likely sit out; thus, backup players will see more action.
For this game, Stetson Bennett and Ty Simpson will handle most of the quarterback duties for the Rams. They are competing for the backup role and are expected to perform well. Justin Fields, now with the Chiefs, will make his mark under Andy Reid’s guidance. Fans hope to see him play at least a quarter. Given the lineup, I predict the Rams will score over 16.5 points as their quarterbacks are talented and motivated.
Panthers vs. Bills
This preseason game could have echoed a Super Bowl match given both teams’ playoff appearances last season. Despite painful postseason exits, they remain competitive. The Panthers play their second preseason game, while the Bills play their first, debuting in a new stadium, which may inspire them further.
In their previous game, Panthers quarterback Haynes King threw the ball 34 times, and with Kenny Pickett’s additional 11 passes, the team demonstrated a preference for passing over running. This strategy might lead to a higher score. Whether Bryce Young will play remains uncertain, but his presence would potentially enhance Carolina’s performance.
The Bills have confirmed that Josh Allen will play for a series or two, although it’s not strictly necessary for his development. This may be more about getting some action in the new stadium and building chemistry with new teammates like DJ Moore. However, there is little confidence in backups Kyle Allen or Shane Buechele taking charge.
I plan to bet on the Panthers with the points. Despite the sentimental angle of a Bills win in their new venue, the Panthers’ backups are likely superior and more acclimated to game intensity. I will place bets on the Panthers, including the moneyline.
