President Trump has urged Bill Pulte, his temporary appointee to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, to carry out mass firings of employees he considers unfit for their positions. Trump believes those who worked under previous Democratic administrations are among those who should be removed.
In a conversation with The Wall Street Journal, Trump explained that Pulte would have more flexibility as he won’t be nominated for permanent leadership of the agency. Trump’s comments about Pulte, who currently leads the Federal Housing Finance Agency and lacks national security experience, offer insight into why he chose Pulte to replace Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence.
Pulte, previously confirmed by the Senate for his current job, can assume the new role for up to 210 days without needing further confirmation. Known for his unwavering support, Pulte has spent over a year identifying alleged crimes by individuals considered political adversaries by President Trump. These individuals have either conducted investigations into Trump or are associated with institutions like the Federal Reserve, which Trump claims operate with political bias against him.
