The search is underway for a successor to Karoline Leavitt, President Donald Trump’s outgoing White House press secretary. As Leavitt prepares to leave the West Wing, speculation mounts over who will become the new public face of the Trump administration.
Leavitt will make her last appearance as press secretary on ‘Fox & Friends,’ preparing to spend more time with family before joining MAGA Inc., a Trump-aligned group. The new press secretary will play a crucial role in defining Trump’s presidency’s final stage, impacting his legacy and political battles ahead.
Until a permanent replacement is named, the press briefing room will feature various Trump officials for briefings, similar to when Leavitt was on maternity leave earlier this year, according to CBS.
White House plans include guest hosts for press briefings while Karoline Leavitt takes maternity leave.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio initiated the press conferences during Leavitt’s absence, followed by other officials like Vice President JD Vance, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz.
Fox News host Dana Perino shared insights on the challenges faced in the final two years of a presidency, noting the shift in focus to the next election after midterms. Perino, a former press secretary under George W. Bush, highlighted the balance between daily governance and campaign involvement.
Sean Spicer, Trump’s first White House press secretary, confirmed the significance of the role in communicating policy and priorities. He emphasized the likely selection of someone within Trump’s current circle.
Alina Habba, initially a frontrunner for the position, has declined interest, leaving other candidates like Scott Jennings and Anna Kelly in the spotlight. Kelly supported Leavitt during her maternity leave without formally taking the podium.
Jennings was previously considered for the role and is known for his political commentary. Trump’s senior advisor Stephen Miller and his wife Katie Miller have also been mentioned as potential replacements.
White House communication director Steven Cheung and other figures like Matthew Boyle and Taylor Budowich are reported as possible contenders.
Leavitt’s tenure as press secretary lasted 19 months, second only to Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Stephanie Grisham, her successor, didn’t hold press briefings and was eventually replaced by Kayleigh McEnany.
Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for further comments.
