The largest World Cup in history is set to commence across three countries next week. A total of 48 nations will begin their quests across North America to claim the championship title.
This expanded World Cup includes more cities and stadiums than ever before. A record 16 venues will host matches during this historic tournament. Below is a ranking of these 16 stadiums that play a crucial role in the 48-team World Cup.
1. Estadio Azteca (Mexico City)
Estadio Azteca is the venue for the opening match of the 2026 World Cup. It stands as a beacon of culture and prestige in the world of soccer. Known as a sporting cathedral in Mexico City, it has previously hosted two World Cup Finals. Seeing the Azteca adorned with flags from all competing nations promises a unique experience.
2. SoFi Stadium (Los Angeles)
SoFi Stadium is my top choice for a modern stadium in the World Cup. It will be the site where the U.S. Men’s National Team launches their World Cup campaign against Paraguay. Nestled near Hollywood, it is designed for grand spectacles in sport and entertainment.
3. Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta)
Mercedes-Benz Stadium is one of America’s finest venues, alongside L.A.’s. It offers ample space and comfort, making it ideal for major sporting events. Over the past decade, it has hosted significant games and provides a perfect home for Atlanta FC in the MLS.
4. AT&T Stadium (Dallas)
Commonly referred to as Jerry’s World, AT&T Stadium was always meant to host the World Cup. Although surpassed by Los Angeles and Atlanta’s venues, it remains the largest and continues to captivate traveling fans from around the globe.
5. Estadio BBVA (Monterrey)
The secondary Mexican stadium might lack the frills of some American venues. However, it earns a high ranking due to the fervent atmosphere expected from diehard C.F. Monterrey fans. Known as “The Steel Giant,” it attracts more fans than any other in the Mexican domestic league.
Other venues ranked include:
- 6. Hard Rock Stadium (Miami)
- 7. Lumen Field (Seattle)
- 8. NRG Stadium (Houston)
- 9. Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia)
- 10. Estadio Jalisco (Guadalajara)
- 11. Arrowhead Stadium (Kansas City)
