Reunion of Former ‘Good Day L.A.’ Hosts in New Podcast

After being off-air for over a decade, the original hosts of KTTV Fox 11’s ‘Good Day L.A.’ have reunited for a new venture. Steve Edwards, Dorothy Lucey, and Jillian Barberie hosted the show for nearly 20 years, becoming a staple in the competitive morning show market. Their dynamic blend of personalities and humor often outshone even national morning shows and local competitors like ‘The KTLA Morning News.’

The show’s hosts created a unique atmosphere with their engaging banter. Edwards, the experienced newsman, led the charge alongside the perpetually optimistic Lucey and the bold Barbarie. The chemistry was undeniable, though undercurrents of friction occasionally added an edge to their exchanges. Barberie once criticized Lucey publicly, highlighting their rocky relationship.

The team began to disband in 2012 when Lucey was fired amidst a revamp of the show. Barberie followed after declining a demotion, and Edwards exited in 2017 amid allegations of sexual harassment, though no official explanation was given. These changes prompted public protests from fans and celebrities.

Years later, Edwards, Lucey, and Barberie have launched a podcast titled ‘So Unanchored.’ This weekly series taps into their rapport, covering pop culture and personal stories with their signature spontaneity. The podcast is recorded in a modest Canoga Park office, diverging from the grandeur of their previous TV studio.

Barberie, who faced personal challenges post-‘Good Day L.A.,’ including divorce and cancer, finds comfort in the podcast and her strengthened friendships with Lucey and Edwards. The dynamic among them has softened, with Barberie and Lucey now sharing a sisterly bond. ‘We really didn’t like each other back then, but now we do,’ Lucey shared on the podcast.

Despite her hardships, Barberie has become more candid and humorous on the podcast, offering raw insights into her past and present experiences. Her unfiltered approach revives the magnetic presence she brought to the morning show.

Scott Sternberg, producer of ‘So Unanchored,’ attributes the original show’s success to the palpable chemistry between the hosts. The trio’s ability to connect with audiences was unparalleled, according to Sternberg. This connection remains a key element of their podcast.

The initial falter of ‘Good Day L.A.’ was signaled in 2017, when new management sought to revitalize the show, leading to staff changes. Lucey was openly critical of the dismissal process, illustrating the harshness of the transition.

Reunited, Edwards, Lucey, and Barberie embrace the chance to work together again. Barberie describes their collaboration with one word: ‘Home.’
