Rufus Gifford Criticizes DNC Chairman Ken Martin

Former Deputy Campaign Manager to Joe Biden, Rufus Gifford, expressed concerns about the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Ken Martin. Gifford, previously the DNC finance director during Obama’s term, shared his views on Substack. He highlighted issues like the committee’s fundraising struggles and ineffective messaging under Martin’s leadership.

According to Gifford, Martin’s lack of communication hampers efforts. He referenced past collaboration with figures like Jim Messina and Jen O’Malley Dillon, which secured funding for special projects. Gifford believes current efforts to raise funds face obstacles, potentially leading to failure.

“It seems clear that such requests or the multitude of others…could not be met with a ‘yes’ at this point. That is a failure and we have been seeing this coming for a year now.”

Gifford mentioned his personal experience, noting he never heard from Martin during his time with Biden. He described Martin as a good person overwhelmed by the current challenges.

His critique follows reports of DNC financial issues, including significant debt. Gifford emphasized the need for Democrats to acknowledge and address these problems collectively.

In response, a DNC official highlighted Martin’s prior assertion of successful fundraising without White House support. Martin claimed the party is poised for success in upcoming elections.

Reports surfaced of Martin facing an HR complaint after an alleged altercation with an aide. Financial records revealed the DNC ended June with $16.3 million cash but owed $18.5 million. Comparatively, the Republican counterpart had $128.5 million cash and no debt.
