San Francisco 49ers Owner Jed York Arrested and Pleads No Contest to Charges
Jed York, owner of the San Francisco 49ers, was arrested in Ohio over the weekend. He faced misdemeanor charges related to disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. York’s arrest took place in East Palestine, Ohio, and he was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
On Monday morning, York pleaded no contest to the charges. He was sentenced to one day in jail, which he already completed, thereby serving no additional time. Additionally, he received a $1,150 fine.
Court documents revealed that York was initially charged with engaging in prostitution. However, prosecutors later reduced this to a disorderly conduct charge. As part of his plea agreement, York’s cellphone was returned, and $160 that was seized would be allocated to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. York also completed an online educational course.
The San Francisco 49ers and the NFL did not immediately issue a statement regarding York’s arrest.
Jed York, 46, became actively involved in the 49ers’ management in 2008, inheriting the role from his parents. By 2024, he became the team’s principal owner. Although the team experienced early setbacks, it has been competitive since the appointments of coach Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch as general manager in 2017. Under York’s leadership, the 49ers reached the Super Bowl thrice, with finals in the 2012, 2019, and 2023 seasons.
York also played a significant role in the development of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, when the team relocated there in 2014. This venue has hosted prestigious events like two Super Bowls, a World Cup, and a College Football Playoff title game.
