Scott Walker Criticizes Rising Democratic Socialist in Wisconsin

Former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has voiced his concerns regarding the political climate in the state, focusing on the rise of democratic socialist Francesca Hong. Walker asserts that Hong, a Wisconsin state representative, is inadvertently harming her own campaign.

Hong is leading the polls in the Democratic primary. The 37-year-old, a former chef and single mother, has faced controversy for her progressive stances. Comments about abolishing the police and her take on Thanksgiving have garnered attention. In 2020, she suggested on social media to “Cancel Thanksgiving” due to its colonial roots. She now claims her views have evolved and calls Thanksgiving her “favorite” holiday.

“I think she’ll say just about anything to get elected,” Walker told Fox News Digital.

Walker points out that Hong’s past comments on various issues, such as Thanksgiving and other cultural topics, disconnect her from potential voters. Walker suggests these statements, made as an elected official, could erode support from her base by challenging her anti-establishment appeal.

Despite Hong’s denial of extreme viewpoints, she did not receive an endorsement from left-wing Senator Bernie Sanders. Establishment Democrats hope to prevent her nomination, but she remains a favorite in the Democratic primary.

Walker, reflecting on the ideological shift among primary voters, connects the rise of democratic socialism to three main factors. He points to discontent with housing prices and a perceived loss of the American dream among young voters as reasons for shifts to political extremes. Walker also attributes this phenomenon to liberal influences in education and opposition to policies under former President Donald Trump.

The upcoming Democratic gubernatorial primary will determine Hong’s stance against Republican Tom Tiffany, who is favored in his primary.
