In the third quarter, the Seattle Seahawks faced challenges as the New England Patriots held a 10-0 lead. The Seahawks had to adjust quickly when starting quarterback Sam Darnold left the field due to a hip injury after the first drive.
Backup quarterback Drew Lock initially struggled, with his first four drives resulting in punts. However, on Seattle’s final possession of the third quarter, Lock managed a 31-yard drive, culminating in a field goal, putting Seattle on the scoreboard.
In the fourth quarter, Lock displayed remarkable performance. He connected with receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 45-yard touchdown pass. Additionally, Lock led a charge down the field for another field goal, giving Seattle a 13-10 lead with just 5:50 left on the clock. The game was clinched with a third interception by Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, ensuring Seattle’s win.
Drew Lock said after the game on NBC’s broadcast, “I know what kind of defense we have. I know the playmakers that we have on this side of the ball, on the opposite side of the ball. If I take care of the football, get it in their hands, don’t turn it over, win the turnover battle, by the end of the game, I’d like to think we’d have a pretty good shot at winning. Sure enough, 13-10.”
Lock concluded the game with 16 completions from 22 attempts, totaling 187 yards, one touchdown, and an additional 13 rushing yards. His turnover-free performance was crucial to Seattle’s victory.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald informed reporters that the injury to Darnold is not a fracture, suggesting the quarterback might not be out for a lengthy period, pending further examinations.
