Sen. Durbin Offers Immediate Meeting with Angel Mom During AG Confirmation Hearing

Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., expressed his willingness to meet promptly with Jennifer Bos, an Angel Mom, during the second day of the confirmation hearing for Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. Bos stated that Angel Parents lobbying for immigration reform have felt ignored.

Miss Bos, anxious to meet with you, Durbin said. I hope we can do it soon, maybe right after this.

Jennifer Bos’s daughter was found deceased in a bleach-filled container, with an illegal immigrant charged with concealing her death. Bos appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee to support Blanche’s nomination, highlighting the Trump administration’s priorities on violent crime and immigration enforcement.

Bos is part of Angel Families, whose members have been impacted by crimes involving illegal immigrants and are advocating for stricter immigration policies.

During National Crime Victims Week, Homeland Security has honored Angel Families and labeled such crimes as completely preventable.

Durbin’s offer to meet came during an interaction with Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala. Bos emphasized the difficulty Angel Moms face in securing meetings with lawmakers. Bos noted, This is the first time I’ve ever spoken with him, highlighting her lack of contact with previous officials.

Britt expressed hope that lawmakers would engage more with victims, echoing sentiments about the importance of such meetings.

Bos pointed out that Democratic officials have not acted on several pieces of legislation introduced in the last session, making it challenging to discuss with those opposed.

At the hearing’s conclusion, Durbin again addressed Bos, offering to meet her immediately. He acknowledged the hardship she faced in traveling to testify and wished to alleviate her wait time.

Durbin stated, I didn’t know it was a hardship for you to make this journey here, testify, from Illinois, and I don’t want you to have to wait to see me. We can talk as soon as this meeting adjourns, if it’s okay with you.

Megan Bos was found deceased in Illinois in April 2025, after a 51-day search. The Lake County Coroner’s Office deemed her cause of death as undetermined.

Jose Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, initially faced charges related to concealment, abuse, and obstruction but was released due to state legal stipulations. ICE later detained him for his immigration status.

Bos praised Blanche for his intervention after local officials’ failure to ensure justice. She commended ICE’s VOICE office for its support after Mendoza-Gonzalez was temporarily freed under Illinois sanctuary law.

Bos urged the committee to confirm Blanche, noting, I’m asking the committee not to wait until another mother is sitting where I am. Confirm Todd Blanche. He is a leader who will uphold the law, honor victims, and fight for safety and protection.

Mendoza-Gonzalez remains in federal custody after being detained by ICE and faces state charges linked to Bos’s death.
