Spokane Wildfire Causes Extensive Damage

A wildfire near downtown Spokane, Washington has caused significant damage to over 600 structures. As efforts continue to evaluate the destruction, the fire spans 5,390 acres, as reported by Benjamin Cossel from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to NBC News.

Authorities are yet to identify how many of the damaged structures are homes, businesses, or schools. The fires, termed the Spokane Area Fires, consist of three separate incidents: the Old Trails Fire, the Fairview Fire, and the Autumn Lane Fire.

The California Interagency Incident Management Teams have taken command of these fires. They specialize in managing complex wildland-urban fires where residential areas are at risk. This was confirmed by team officials during their interview with NBC affiliate KHQ in Spokane.
