Tadej Pogacar Wins Fifth Tour de France Title
Tadej Pogacar has secured his place among cycling’s elite by winning a fifth Tour de France title. The Slovenian’s daring mountain attacks and calm demeanor were crucial in clinching his victory on Sunday. Joining luminaries like Eddy Merckx and Miguel Indurain, Pogacar is now among the few who have won five Tours.
I’m speechless. It’s an incredible day, there was an incredible atmosphere,Pogacar said.I’ve ridden seven Tours already and I’ve always finished on the podium. You might think this is a fairytale, it’s incredible for me too.
Pogacar finished 6 minutes, 26 seconds ahead of Remco Evenepoel in the overall standings. Jonas Vingegaard, a chief contender, exited the race after a crash in the 15th stage.

Pogacar’s teammate Isaac Del Toro finished third, 9:42 behind him. The team celebrated their success together on the Champs-Élysées.

Pogacar, who triumphed at the Giro d’Italia in 2024, has yet to win the Spanish Vuelta, which begins on August 22.

Peerless Pogacar
This year, Pogacar won five stages, bringing his total to 26. While Mathieu van der Poel won Sunday’s stage, which was a loop around Paris, Pogacar did not manage a victory this time. The final stage, usually flat, was shortened and adjusted to support wildfire emergency efforts in the region.
The stage included popular climbs through the Montmartre district, attempted three times. Despite Pogacar’s skill, Van der Poel’s strength outperformed him near the end.
Exciting Finale
Van der Poel and Mads Pedersen, known for sprinting, contended fiercely for the stage win. Pogacar fell back towards the end while Van der Poel edged ahead of Jasper Philipsen and Pedersen.
I thought the sprinters would catch us up, so I launched from very far away,Van der Poel explained.I gave everything I had left in my legs and it was just enough.
Cycling Pedigree
Van der Poel is celebrated in the cycling community, with numerous titles including world championships. His father, Adri van der Poel, won Tour de France stages in the 1980s, and his grandfather, Raymond Poulidor, earned several second and third places in earlier Tours.
Women’s Tour
The women’s Tour starts on August 1 in Lausanne, finishing in Nice on August 9. Last year, Pauline Ferrand-Prévôt won on her debut.
