The Texas Longhorns’ softball team, ranked second, secured their spot in the Women’s College World Series. They achieved this by defeating Arizona State 5-0 in the Austin Super Regional. However, an unforeseen microphone incident garnered attention.
During the game, ESPN microphones unexpectedly picked up someone making inappropriate remarks while Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan faced a batter. Despite the incident, play-by-play announcer Kevin Brown continued without interruption.
A general view of the game venue, Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin, Texas, captures the atmosphere before the match against Tennessee Volunteers in April 2025. Additionally, Kevin Brown discussed Arizona State manager Megan Bartlett and her reputation for developing successful assistants.
In other tournament developments, Jason Williams, a former NBA star, and his daughter, Mia, were central figures in a different incident. Over the weekend, during Texas Tech’s match against Florida, Williams was ejected from the game. Mia, formerly of the Gators, hit a two-run homer, leading to Texas Tech’s victory over her previous team.
Texas is scheduled to face the Tennessee Volunteers on Thursday in the double-elimination phase of the Women’s College World Series.
