Naseem Stevens, 26, had hopeful plans cut short when he was shot and killed at a Grand Crossing gas station on a Friday evening. This incident occurred hours after the funeral of Mi’KQuale Cooper, a rapper known as BloodHound Q50. The police are examining potential connections between the attack on Stevens and Cooper’s funeral.
Stevens’ mother, Karonna Williams, has seen speculation on social media regarding her son’s alleged ties to the BloodHounds street gang. However, she firmly rejects these claims. Describing her son as “a ray of sunshine,” Williams emphasized his charismatic and joyful nature.
“I know what he is,” Williams stated.
Stevens was her oldest child and had a diverse background. He participated in the South Shore Drill Team and performed in New York. In middle school, he acquired the nickname Poohman, which he used on social media. His family, though, continued to call him Naseem.
Stevens made some errors in the past, according to Williams. In 2022, he was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty in gun-related cases. He faced arrests following his release, surviving a rough patch before refocusing his life. He eagerly anticipated becoming a father, expecting his first child the following year.
Williams believes that Stevens was on a path to change, especially because of impending fatherhood. “He started to realize that that wasn’t the road he needed to go down,” she remarked.
The last time Williams saw Stevens was early Friday morning before she left for work. She remained uncertain about his plans that day or if he attended Cooper’s funeral. According to police documents, the car he drove during the shooting displayed a funeral sticker. Cooper’s funeral had taken place in Merrillville, Indiana, that day.
Cooper was shot at a Fuller Park gas station less than two weeks before Stevens. Around 4 a.m. on Sept. 14, Cooper arrived at a gas station near 42nd and Wentworth in a white Tesla. Six shooters arrived in two vehicles, targeting Cooper and a woman accompanying him; she was unharmed, but Cooper died shortly after.
Tributes poured in for Cooper from fellow artists who admired his unique authenticity and musical talent. Meanwhile, law enforcement continues to investigate both shootings. As of Monday afternoon, no arrests have been made. The inquiry into the events surrounding the deaths of Cooper and Stevens remains ongoing.
