Tiger Woods has remained largely out of the public eye since his DUI arrest in March. However, a recent pre-recorded video message to former pro golfer Notah Begay has resurfaced public interest and concern. Woods addressed Begay at the Payne Stewart Award ceremony, commending Begay’s accomplishments in golf and his contributions to Native American communities.
Woods recounted their long-standing friendship, beginning when he was 11 years old. He praised Begay’s off-course efforts, highlighting his work with over 80,000 youths and the sports complex in San Felipe. “You’ve done an amazing job,” Woods said, emphasizing Begay’s positive influence on tribal communities.
Despite the message’s warmth, some fans expressed worry over Woods’ physical appearance in the video. Comments on social media reflected mixed reactions, noting his aged appearance due to facial hair.
Woods’ recent arrest was due to a car crash on Jupiter Island in March 2026, leading to DUI charges when officers found opioid pills. Woods attended a rehabilitation center in Switzerland in April and returned in May. Since then, he has maintained a low profile. His appearance for Begay marked a rare public engagement.
Previously, Woods introduced PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp in a news conference, marking his first public appearance post-rehabilitation. His role on the Tour’s Future Competition Committee is a “privilege,” he noted during the event. Woods is scheduled for a court appearance for his DUI charge on Sept. 8.
