Todd Blanche Criticizes Illinois Governor and Details Violent Incidents
Chicago Violence and Federal Assistance Dispute
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has voiced strong criticism toward Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. Blanche argues that the governor’s refusal of federal aid is impacting efforts to curb violence in Chicago. Over a weekend, the city witnessed eight fatalities and dozens of shootings.
Blanche noted the contrast between Chicago’s ongoing violence and successful crime reduction strategies in Washington, D.C., and Memphis. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between local and federal authorities to tackle such challenges.
Northern California Library Shooting
A separate incident occurred in Northern California, where an 18-year-old gunman opened fire in a library, resulting in two deaths. The suspect, Bradley Scott Sayer, was allegedly influenced by the 1999 Columbine High School shooting.
Reports indicate that Sayer had no connection with the library or the victims. He entered the Chico branch of the Butte County Library with a shotgun, killing two men and injuring a young girl.
“From the first 911 call to having him in custody was less than four minutes,” remarked Chico Police Chief Billy Aldridge.
The rapid police response was crucial in averting further casualties. Victims identified in the shooting were Jacob Hull, 46, and Robert Johnson, 74. A total of eight shots were discharged during the incident.
Sayer’s Background and Arrest
Sayer, a recent Chico High School graduate, was apprehended by police shortly after the attack. A search of his vehicle revealed additional firearms. Authorities are investigating how he obtained these weapons.
At the time of the attack, Sayer wore a T-shirt mimicking one of the Columbine shooters. The Butte County District Attorney, Michael Ramsey, noted Sayer’s long-standing fascination with the Columbine events on social media.
Sayer is set to face arraignment proceedings on Thursday.
