An unfortunate accident claimed the life of an airport worker at YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport this week. The worker was struck by an Airbus A350, operated by French Bee, a low-cost airline, on Monday. The incident occurred during ground operations and has led to an ongoing investigation by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB).
The activities taking place just before the departure of French Bee’s Flight BF5761 to Paris-Orly included a pushback operation of the aircraft. Unfortunately, the exact details surrounding the accident are still under investigation. The airline expressed its condolences to the worker’s family and loved ones, extending support to colleagues affected by the tragic event.
The airline, French Bee, confirmed its full cooperation with Canadian authorities, assisting in the ongoing investigation and offering necessary support.
Yves Beauchamp, president and CEO of Aéroports de Montréal (ADM), expressed deep sadness over the incident. He noted, “The loss of a member of our airport community affects us all deeply.” Beauchamp extended condolences to the worker’s family, loved ones, and colleagues.
ADM has taken steps to aid employees and passengers who witnessed the accident, working collaboratively with partners to offer support. ADM is maintaining cooperation with investigating authorities from the initiation of their efforts.
In accordance with protocol, the Quebec coroner’s office has been notified and is looking into the causes and circumstances of the death, according to reports.
ADM refrained from making further public comments, respecting the victim and their loved ones. Media inquiries were directed to the leading investigating authorities.
This tragic occurrence is one of several recent accidents at major North American airports. Earlier, a Delta Air Lines employee was killed when an airport tug vehicle collided with a jet bridge at Orlando International Airport. Similarly, a Frontier Airlines jet struck a person on the runway at Denver International Airport, resulting in a fatality.
