President Trump recently urged the cancellation of a planned concert series meant to celebrate the United States’ 250th birthday. This follows several musicians withdrawing from the event. On Saturday, Trump wrote on Truth Social, suggesting an alternative: ‘Cancel it. We should have a giant MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY, for 250, instead of having overpriced singers, who nobody wants to hear, whose music is boring, and yet who do nothing but complain.’
Freedom 250, the organization behind the administration’s birthday celebration events, announced that nine musical acts were set to perform at the Great American State Fair. This fair will take place on the National Mall over a span of 16 days, starting in late June. However, at least five musicians have since withdrawn. Some artists claimed they were unaware of the event’s alignment with the Trump administration’s initiative.
Earlier on Truth Social, Trump proposed that he should headline the event instead of the canceled concerts. He described himself as ‘the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World’ and claimed to attract larger audiences than Elvis did during his prime. Trump’s statement suggested he should replace these ‘highly paid, Third Rate ‘Artists.’’
