President Donald Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s decision not to award him the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. In a post on Truth Social, Trump listed several achievements, including resolving eight wars, nearing a conclusion for two more, and recovering Israeli hostages, among other feats.
Trump has pursued the Peace Prize since 2018 when Norwegian lawmakers nominated him for efforts with North Korea. He has claimed in the past that the Nobel system is biased, notably remarking in 2019 that he deserved the prize for his accomplishments.
The list of those nominating him includes figures like former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Despite being nominated five times, Trump was passed over this year in favor of Navi Pillay, a South African jurist known for her role in major international courts and as a former U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Pillay’s nomination brought controversy due to her involvement with the U.N.’s inquiry on the Palestinian Territory and Israel. Critics argued her role displayed bias against Israel. Despite this, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres commended her contributions to human rights and international law.
