President Donald Trump announced that the tentative ceasefire with Iran has ended. This declaration came after a night of intense bombing by the U.S. military. These actions were in response to Iranian attacks on commercial shipping.
Trump spoke during a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte in Ankara. He stated, “For me? I think it’s over.” He emphasized that he no longer wishes to engage with Iran. “I don’t want to deal with them anymore, they’re scum.” Although he acknowledged that talks might continue, he dismissed them as futile. “They’re liars, they’re cheats. They’re sick people,” he said.
“For me? I think it’s over,” Trump told reporters during a meeting.
The President’s remarks suggest an end to the recent negotiations. These talks aimed at resuming traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Both sides had previously signed a memorandum of understanding to facilitate this.
However, this progress faltered when Iran attacked at least three commercial vessels on Monday and Tuesday. In retaliation, the U.S. struck over 80 targets in Iran.
