Trump Endorses Rick Jackson for Georgia Governor After Primary Upset
After the defeat of his initial pick for Georgia governor, President Donald Trump has endorsed nominee Rick Jackson. Trump calls on Republicans to unite behind Jackson in this high-profile gubernatorial race.
Previously, Trump supported Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones, who lost to Jackson in a surprising primary turn. Trump remarked on Jackson’s excellent campaign and commended Jones as well. In a Truth Social post, Trump praised Jackson’s success in business and urged the GOP to support him in the November elections.
Trump’s endorsement highlights his swift move to consolidate Republican backing for the Georgia race. This state is a vital battleground in the upcoming 2026 midterms. Jackson will face Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms in the race to succeed the outgoing Governor Brian Kemp.
On social media, Jackson expressed gratitude for Trump’s endorsement. He promised to implement business strategies to address taxes, education, security, and affordability in Georgia.
Columbia University’s Robert Y. Shapiro commented that Trump aims to rally Republican voters, particularly in battleground states. This aligns with Trump’s strategy to back winners and strengthen Republican unity.
Polls suggest a tight race in Georgia. An AARP survey shows Bottoms with a narrow lead of 48% to Jackson’s 46% among likely voters. However, Jackson leads among those aged 50 and above. The survey involved 1,060 participants with a 3% margin of error.
Wick Research’s poll reveals Jackson slightly ahead with 43.2% to Bottoms’ 42.7%, with 14.1% undecided. Despite this, it remains a statistical tie within the 2.9% margin of error. This poll surveyed 1,175 likely voters.
A Fox News poll, however, shows Bottoms leading with 52% over Jackson at 47%, based on a survey of 1,002 registered voters.
The Cook Political Report labels the race a toss-up. Trump previously secured Georgia in the 2024 election, reclaiming it after his 2020 loss, where he contested the results.
Trump’s recent endorsements in other states, like Arizona, also indicate his party influence. His supported candidates in Arizona have gained nominations, indicating his sway in Republican primaries, despite losses like Jones’ in Georgia.
Trump continues to endorse candidates across battleground states to strengthen GOP ties. His support remains crucial as elections approach, particularly among swing voters.
