Trump’s $8 Billion Farm Bailout Amid Agriculture Challenges
President Donald Trump is addressing challenges in the agriculture sector by pledging an $8 billion bailout for farmers. This move comes just two weeks before the midterm elections.
This bailout brings the total direct federal payments to farmers this fiscal year to approximately $55 billion. This figure represents about 25% of the annual contribution of farms to the U.S. gross domestic product. Compared to 2017, the level of direct payments has increased significantly, reaching nearly five times the previous amount.
A recent image captured a farmer harvesting soybeans in Canal Winchester, Ohio. The farmers in the Midwest are a critical support base, and these measures aim to secure their support amid electoral pressures.
