U.S. Coast Guard Searches for Missing American Woman in Bahamas

MARSH HARBOUR, Bahamas — The U.S. Coast Guard is conducting a search in the Bahamas for Lynette Hooker, an American woman whose body has not been recovered. The Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell arrived at Hope Town, ready to explore a new 25-foot deep area in the Sea of Abaco.

The Coast Guard docked at Abaco Inn in Hope Town, unloading equipment before proceeding with the search operation. Lynette Hooker vanished on April 4 while boating near Elbow Cay with her husband, Brian Hooker. He stated that his wife fell from a dinghy at night and was swept away.

“She’s the kind of person anybody would be happy to be around in any occasion,” said a family friend. “The disappearance is devastating for the boating community.”

Investigators are examining the couple’s sailboat, Soulmate, for clues. The Coast Guard docked the boat initially in Fort Pierce, Florida, prior to relocating it to Fort Lauderdale.

U.S. officials have confirmed the vessel will be thoroughly inspected, with focus on its electronics and navigation systems as potential sources of evidence. Devices and computer systems aboard are being carefully reviewed.

Brian Hooker, the husband, was questioned by Bahamian authorities but released without charges. His case is being treated as a homicide, though investigators still face challenges, including the absence of Lynette’s remains.

Julie Rendelman, a former prosecutor, explained that without a body, the case would proceed as a ‘no-body homicide.’ This adds complexity in establishing evidence of foul play. Even if Lynette’s body is found, determining the cause without clear signs of harm remains difficult.

Brian Hooker has not been charged with any crime, and no comments were available from his attorney after multiple attempts by Fox News Digital.
