U.S. Considers Major Military Action Against Iran
President Trump is considering launching a substantial military operation against Iran. He informed Axios that he is close to a decision on a potential “massive attack.” The U.S. has been expanding its military targets and increasing its firepower in daily strikes on Iran.
Trump stated to Axios reporter Barak Ravid that cooperation with Israel, which participated in initial strikes on February 28, could be immediate if requested. He noted that the U.S. might not require additional support for a future attack. Earlier, Secretary of State Marco Rubio described Trump’s military approach as “a head for an eye.” The U.S. military is deploying more B-1 bombers, refueling jets, and medical personnel in the region.

Brew noted that escalation could occur due to the unsustainable current standoff, a limited action window for the U.S., unattractive de-escalation routes, and Iran’s unlikely compliance.
However, Trump’s decision comes with risks. Concerns include declining U.S. weapon stockpiles and rising energy costs as midterm elections approach. Sina Toossi, a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy, assessed that returning to diplomacy could be preferable. He pointed out the political challenges of a deal but noted they might be less severe than engaging in another long, costly war without achieving strategic goals.
