U.S. Mint Introduces $1 Coins Featuring President Trump
The U.S. Mint is set to release new gold-colored $1 coins with President Donald Trump’s image. The coins will be available from noon ET on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Prices range from $1.55 to $2.44 per coin.
First announced in July, these coins display Trump’s face on the obverse side. They also bear the inscriptions “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “1776 ~ 2026.” The reverse side features the presidential seal. An eagle holds an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, with the inscription “250” marking the U.S. semiquincentennial anniversary.
The cost of the coins varies by quantity. You can purchase a 25-coin roll for $61 or a 100-coin bag for $154.50. The coins aim to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Though U.S. regulations allow only deceased individuals on currency, the Trump administration noted that a 2020 law permits new designs for the 250th anniversary. The U.S. Mint confirmed these coins are legal tender and suggested they may become collectibles.
“Created to celebrate this historic national milestone, these special circulating dollar coins combine everyday American coinage with a once-in-a-generation anniversary design destined to become a standout addition to modern collections,” stated the U.S. Mint.
While the coins appear gold-colored, they mainly consist of copper, with 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, and 2% nickel. No actual gold is used. The U.S. Mint is including 250,000 special-issue $1 Trump coins featuring a “July 4th” privy mark in bags and rolls sold on their site.
