Polymarket faced significant disruption when a third-party software vendor’s security lapse affected its international platform. This event led to the platform halting trading for about an hour on Thursday.
Users expressed concern in Polymarket’s official Discord forum after reports surfaced indicating that funds in some wallets had been depleted. In response, Polymarket assured all affected users that their losses would be compensated.
Polymarket has two separate platforms, with this incident involving the international market. The platform allows users to place bets on various outcomes, such as political events or popular video game release dates. By around 2 p.m., Polymarket transitioned to a cancel-only mode. This means users could cancel transactions but not place new orders.
The issue traced back to DebugBear, a third-party performance and debugging software. A source clarified that this compromise involved DebugBear, a UK-based platform, and Polymarket has informed UK authorities about the incident.
DebugBear did not provide an immediate comment. However, they acknowledged on social media that they were dealing with a security issue and recommended users remove any embedded tools from their websites.
