Vice President JD Vance Welcomes Fourth Child

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, announced the birth of their fourth child on Sunday. This marks a significant event as Alec Neel Vance is the first child born to a sitting vice president in over 150 years.

Alec was welcomed with excitement by his older siblings: Ewan, aged 9; Vivek, aged 6; and Mirabel, aged 4. The Vance family shared the news on social media, expressing their joy.

“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother,”

they stated. They conveyed their gratitude to the medical staff at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the White House medical team.

Vice President Vance has long advocated for increased birth rates in America. He regarded personal events, including the 2025 killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was his friend, as a factor in the decision to expand his family.

Vance launched his political career in 2021, seeking a U.S. Senate seat from Ohio. He expressed concern about declining birth rates, stating at the 2025 March for Life, “I want more babies in the United States of America.” His family often accompanies him, even on overseas trips.

Usha Vance’s pregnancy, announced in January, attracted public attention due to her status as the wife of a high-ranking official. Her presence in the media spotlight illustrates the rarity of public figures expanding their families while in office. The last vice president to become a father was Schuyler Colfax in 1870, according to the White House Historical Association.

This baby boom coincides with other births within President Donald Trump’s administration. Stephen Miller’s wife and Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, have also recently welcomed children.
