Vice President JD Vance’s Comment on ‘Childless Cat Ladies’ Gains Attention
Vice President JD Vance’s remark about “childless cat ladies” gained traction during President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign. The comment was even referenced by singer Taylor Swift when she endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Despite the widespread discussion, Beverly Vance, JD Vance’s mother, was unaware of Swift’s comment on her son until recently.
JD Vance celebrated his mother Beverly Aikins’ decade of sobriety at the White House on Friday, April 4, 2025. During an appearance on OutKick’s “Tomi Lahren is Fearless,” Vance expressed surprise at Swift’s involvement, saying, “I had no idea that’s what she was even doing. Until you just said that, I didn’t even put the two together.”
In 2021, JD Vance appeared on Fox News with Tucker Carlson, where he described Democrats as “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”
Beverly explained that her son intended the comment as a joke, referencing his sense of humor. She said, “I just thought it was funny. JD’s just got a sense of humor and you know he was making a joke and obviously people didn’t take it as a joke, but you know, I know JD and he just meant it as a joke.”
JD Vance acknowledged the comment was a mistake in his book. In Swift’s endorsement of Harris and Walz, she posed with a cat, subtly addressing the remark.
During the discussion, Tomi Lahren noted that Swift’s husband, Travis Kelce, is from Ohio like the Vances. Beverly pointed out Kelce’s college football career at the University of Cincinnati.
