Vita Vea Seeks Trade Amid Contract Disputes with Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defensive tackle, Vita Vea, has requested a trade. Known for his critical role in the Buccaneers’ 2021 Super Bowl win, Vea faces stalled contract extension talks. The current deal, a four-year contract worth $71 million signed in 2022, is nearing its end.

Hailing from California, Vea has been linked to several West Coast NFL teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Chargers, and Los Angeles Rams. However, Rams’ head coach Sean McVay expressed satisfaction with their current lineup on the ‘Up & Adams’ show, dampening speculation about acquiring Vea.

The Rams are focusing on a Super Bowl push, highlighted by the acquisition of Myles Garrett, who set a record with 23 sacks in 17 games. The Rams’ interest in top-tier defensive talent remains, as evidenced by potential moves involving Aaron Donald.

Despite a mixed performance last season, Vea’s stats remain impressive. At 31, he registered 34 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hits, 4.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery in 17 games. He maintains a solid streak with four or more sacks annually over five seasons. His overall Pro Football Focus grade of 70.2 placed him 20th among tackles, with 51 pressures recorded in the NFL, ranking seventh.

The Rams’ current defensive lineup boasts talent such as Garrett, Kobie Turner, Byron Young, Braden Fiske, Omar Speights, and Nate Landman. Adding Vea could enhance their formidable front seven. However, the cost of negotiation and fulfilling his contractual desires poses a significant question.
