Week 5 of the college football season delivered unexpected excitement, despite a seemingly lackluster schedule. The unpredictability of the sport shone through as movement occurred in the latest AP Top 25 poll.
The weekend featured three matchups between ranked teams, but a standout change is Missouri’s leap in the rankings. The Tigers surged forward with a decisive 45-17 victory over Florida. This success came after Florida’s impressive win against Ole Miss the previous week.
In the SEC, Alabama moved up to No. 6 following a dominating performance against Mississippi State. They surpassed defending champion Indiana, which dropped a spot despite a victory at Rutgers. Missouri Tigers wide receiver Naeshaun Montgomery congratulated running back Jamal Roberts during their game’s successful moments.

Within the latest rankings, the top eight teams, including the unchanged top five, hold steady. However, beyond that, the situation is more complicated, particularly among SEC teams.
Ole Miss stayed at No. 9 during a bye week, while LSU climbed to No. 10 with a win over McNeese. Missouri’s victory resulted in an eleven-spot jump to No. 14. Florida, after losing by 28 points to Missouri, dropped eight spots. Meanwhile, Mississippi State sank just one spot to No. 17 after a significant loss to Alabama.
Kentucky expressed frustration as they went from No. 24 to unranked, despite an overtime victory against South Carolina.
Big Ten fans observed that six teams remain in the poll, but some may grumble about USC. The Trojans fell six places to No. 18 after a narrow win over Washington. Meanwhile, Oregon, which had a bye, rose five spots. Iowa gained three spots, even after a loss to Ohio State by 17 points.
