The Nation, established by abolitionists in 1865, has long provided a critical and independent perspective on political and cultural issues. Today, the situation for women’s health in the United States continues to face significant challenges, exacerbated by policies under the Trump administration.
The U.S. has alarmingly high rates of women dying from preventable causes compared to other developed nations. Maternal mortality is notably severe, with Black women being disproportionately affected. Concurrently, the National Institutes for Health (NIH) have been reducing financial support for research that tackles disparities related to race, sex, or gender. This reduction includes prohibiting the use of terms like “women” and “diversity” in grant proposals.
