Wynonna Judd is openly sharing her story, acknowledging the potential discomfort it may bring to her family. She disclosed that she and her sister, Ashley Judd, are currently not in communication. Wynonna explained that they are focusing on their individual lives, describing this period as ‘taking a break’ and something relatable to many families.
During an interview with People magazine, the country star provided a personal update while talking about her upcoming album, “The Hard Truth.” This deeply personal project delves into Wynonna’s complex relationship with her late mother, Naomi Judd, family secrets, and her journey through anger and forgiveness. The album’s release is scheduled for October 2.
“I feel like this is the most honest and vulnerable I’ve ever been,” Wynonna shared. “It’s all there for everyone to hear. Sometimes I question myself, ‘What have I done?’ but there comes a point in your life when you are ready to tell your testimony.”
Wynonna teamed up with her husband, Cactus Moser, for the album’s creation. Cactus encouraged her to express vulnerability, predicting a cathartic outcome. Reflecting on her mother’s struggles, Wynonna noted the devastation caused by long-held secrets and Naomi’s severe depression, which ultimately led to her suicide in April 2022.
As part of The Judds, Wynonna became a defining figure in country music during the 1980s. The duo achieved remarkable success with 20 Top 10 country hits and numerous awards, including five Grammys. Behind the scenes, however, were challenges marked by both deep love and conflict in Wynonna’s relationship with Naomi.
Wynonna expressed that regardless of her mother’s passing, she would have shared her story. “It’s my story, and it’s my feelings,” she asserted, recognizing the potential difficulty it might have posed for Naomi. Despite this, she believes that Naomi understood Wynonna’s commitment to honesty.
