2024 NFL Draft: Key Players and Current Challenges
Key Players in the 2024 NFL Draft
The 2024 NFL Draft spotlighted three players: Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye. Caleb Williams, the first overall pick, was always seen as having the highest potential. While his career has developed gradually, his progress remains noteworthy. Jayden Daniels showed promise by guiding his team to an NFC Championship as a rookie in 2024. However, his second year saw a decline due to injuries, limiting him to seven starts. Drake Maye was viewed as a developing talent but nearly won the 2025 MVP and took his team to Super Bowl LX, surpassing expectations.
Current Situations and Challenges
Recent games added challenges for these players, particularly for Daniels and Williams. Both suffered injuries in their respective games against the Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings. Daniels dislocated his non-throwing elbow while Williams sustained a lower-body injury. Consequently, they are likely sidelined for upcoming games, with little information available on their recovery timelines.
Drake Maye’s Burden
With Daniels and Williams out, spotlight shifts entirely to Drake Maye. However, his current performance in the third season raises concerns. He has completed 37 of 55 passes with four interceptions and one touchdown, showing potential regression in decision-making and confidence. Given the team’s current player losses, including A.J. Brown on injury reserve and recent roster changes, Maye carries additional responsibility to lead as the face of the franchise.
“He’s going to be the one that’s going to orchestrate and conduct everything we do…” said New England head coach Mike Vrabel, affirming their reliance on Maye’s leadership and decisions moving forward.
Looking Ahead
Maye’s upcoming games against teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, and Chicago Bears require decisive action and inspiring leadership. He must recover his previous form from 2025 to turn whispers into support. With significant attention focused on his performance, Maye’s ability to inspire his team and elevate their play will be critical.
