67-Year-Old Charged After ‘Sugar Baby’ Arrangement Turns Violent

A 67-year-old man from The Villages in central Florida, identified as David Allen O’Brien, has been arrested following a violent incident with a 21-year-old woman he met on a dating app. This interaction was based on a ‘sugar baby’ arrangement. According to the arrest report, O’Brien faces charges of aggravated assault after allegedly chasing the woman with his truck and ramming her car.

The report describes how O’Brien met the woman on Tinder, expressing his intention to find a ‘sugar baby.’ Such relationships typically involve an older individual providing financial support to a younger person. They arranged to meet on July 21, with O’Brien offering the woman $1,000 for each meeting, dinner, and shopping, according to the affidavit.

When the woman arrived for the meeting, she brought three friends. O’Brien initially gave her $200 and took her shopping for lingerie. Afterwards, during dinner, he provided another $600. The situation shifted upon returning to his home, where the woman reported feeling uneasy and contacted her friends for assistance, as per the report.

The report indicates that O’Brien reacted by demanding the return of the money due to breached expectations. As the woman departed with her friends, O’Brien pursued them in his Ford F-150 truck. During the chase, he allegedly collided with their vehicle, causing it to crash into a telephone pole.

The intensity of the situation escalated when O’Brien reportedly brandished a semi-automatic Ruger firearm at a 22-year-old male who was with the woman, threatening harm unless cooperation was given. This person managed to escape when O’Brien became distracted.

Upon police arrival, authorities found O’Brien with his weapon. He claimed he believed he was being scammed because the vehicle’s tail lights were reportedly blacked out.

O’Brien now faces charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery. He is currently held at Sumter County Jail. An arraignment is scheduled for August 14, as mentioned in local records.
