Jimmy Kimmel, known for hosting his late-night show on ABC, will be taking a two-month break starting from July 6. During this period, the show will feature several guest hosts. According to an ABC press release, the lineup begins with Tiffany Haddish, followed by Anthony Anderson, Ike Barinholtz, Colman Domingo, and Jelly Roll.
One notable guest host includes comedian Rosie O’Donnell, whom Kimmel humorously referenced as a favorite of President Donald Trump. Kimmel remarked, “You’re welcome, and all I ask in return, Mr. President, is that you don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone.”
In the past, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” experienced a temporary suspension starting September 15 of last year. This occurred after Kimmel’s comments regarding the reactions to the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. The remarks led to criticism from prominent Republican figures and a regulatory warning from FCC Chair Brendan Carr. The suspension sparked debates on free speech and caused protests at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank and ABC’s New York headquarters.
The show returned on September 23, with Kimmel addressing his suspension. He expressed regret for any distress caused by his comments about Kirk’s death. Despite the controversy, that episode attracted over 6 million viewers. In his monologue, Kimmel emphasized the value of free speech, stating, “What is important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this.”
